Effective teaching is not only a critical step in improving the students’ academic performance, but also an important factor affecting teaching schedule and teaching quality. Biology teaching in senior high schools is an important passage for students to develop their biological knowledge, and it also plays an irreplaceable role in fostering biological literacy, rigorous scientific attitude, and the scientific spirit of seeking truth and being pragmatic.In this research, the current situations in effective teaching research were briefly introduced. Under the premise of the introduction, the theories of effective teaching for senior high school biology were summarized and analyzed by classic methods in teaching research. The present status of biology teaching in senior high school was surveyed and analyzed by using a questionnaire. Based on the results of the questionnaire survey, a experimental teaching scheme was designed to carry out a experimental research on effective teaching strategies. The results from statistical analysis showed that the effects of effective teaching strategy were significantly determined by teaching plan, preview/review model, and students’ preferences for different teaching methods. Finally, we proposed some suggestions and measures for improving effective biology teaching.
