As we know,depression and anxiety of the middle school students is in a highincidence, Its harm is so great that had affected the students’ daily life and learning seriously。However, we found that effective interventions are so few. As an animated sports, funbasketball can enrich the physical exercise projects and make the students’ own qualityimprove, it also can make the mental health, cultivate the mind and exclude the bad mood.For that reason, through the teaching experiments, this paper will explore the effect on themiddle school students’ negative emotions such as depression and anxiety, and analyze itsroot cause and mechanism as well.In this study, the students will be divided into intervention experimental group andnon-intervention control group. Their depression and anxiety index will change before andafter the fun basketball teaching. Through comparison of changes in index, this paper tries toexplore the positive effects of negative emotions on middle school students in fun basketballteaching, in order to find effective intervention methods in treating depression and anxiety ofmiddle school students. This will play an active role in promoting students’ physical andmental health even reducing the incidence of adverse events in the community.Sample and evaluate the selected students’ index of depression and anxiety, thendivided these students into experimental group and control group by score from highest tolowest。After making a12-week fun basketball teaching on experimental group, evaluatethese two group students’ index of depression and anxiety. Compare and analyze the changesof index of depression and anxiety between experimental group and control grouplongitudinally; after experiment, compare and analyze these two groups’ index of depressionand anxiety horizontally to find whether any difference exist.This study took stratified cluster sampling method. First of all, we selected fourschools at random, including No.3Middle School and No.7Middle School in QiaodongDistrict, No.6Middle School and No.12Middle School in Qiaoxi District of Xingtai City.Then we selected one class from each grade including Junior One, Junior Two and JuniorThree. From these twelve classes, we got637students in total. These students would be evaluated by Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS) in order to give the scores of depression level and anxiety level. According these scoresfrom highest to lowest, we selected the preceding30boys and30girls from every school.These60students would be divided into two groups according to the odd-even order, that is,30students in the experimental group adopted the fun basketball teaching and30students inthe control group. Every school had one experimental group and one control group. Theexperimental group would take12-week fun basketball teaching,45minutes each time, oncea day, two days per week.Through the comparison of the experiment before and after, the experimentalgroup’s index of depression improved obviously and showed significantdifference. So did the index of anxiety.The control group’s index of depression andanxiety showed non-significant change before and after.Through the comparison ofexperimental group and control group after the experiment, both the index ofdepression and anxiety had improved and showed significant difference.Through this study, we find that it plays an active role to take12-weekfun basketball teaching in the junior school students who have higher indexof depression and anxiety. Compared to the students in the control group, theeffect of fun basketball teaching on improving the junior school students’depression and anxiety is significant. Therefore, fun basketball is aconvenient and effectual exercising way by which the teenagers’ bad mood willbe eased even removed. It can improve the teenagers’ physical and mental health,so it is adequate to popularize in teaching process.
