In today’s globalized world of economic development and international cooperation, we have to face contacts with people from various cultures and come (are exposed to different cultural environments) across with different cultural behavior and values more frequently as a result. Germany is one of Chinas most important political and economic European partners and the cooperation between both encompasses several fields. Because of the increasing numbers of co-operations between Chinese and German universities, more and more German students study in China nowadays. However, the lack of knowledge and understanding of the Chinese culture has led to cross-cultural communication problems and misunderstandings. This might in turn affect the success of the exchange programs between Chinese and German Institutions. Given the lack of research on cross-cultural adaptation between Chinese and German students, this article will focus on the analysis of the cross-cultural adaptation. By using an empirical investigation and analysis of interviews, factors will be determined that influence the adaptation process of German students in China. In addition, problems that could occur during this process will be analyzed through primary research. The study here is divided into four parts:1st The basis of the problem. This part describes the purpose and significance of this article.2nd Introduction in the theoretical background. First the concept of culture and cross-cultural adaptation is introduced. In addition, the origin of G. Hofstede deep-level theory (lit), especially the values of model classification and his reference to "spiritual software" is illustrated. Finally, the four stages of "culture shock" are described.3rd Investigation and interviews. The empirical research involved questionnaires and the conduction and the analysis of interviews.4rd Countermeasures of cross-cultural adaptation. According to the theory and based on empirical research solutions to these difficulties of German students in China are proposed.
