With the constantly increasing influence of economic globalization on higher education, academic Capitalism, as a new mode of knowledge production and conversion, brings the market-oriented, entrepreneurial ideas into the university campus, such a huge change has a profound impact on the traditional relationship between the mentor and the graduate, particularly, on the relationship between research-based mentor and graduate. This research has a certain practical significance because it introduces a new concept of academic capitalism and expands the view of research about mentor and graduate relations.This paper, taking the rise and impact of academic capitalism as the starting point, investigates parts of the science and engineering graduate students in three universities through the questionnaire and interview, analyzes the status quo of the relationship between science engineering mentors and graduates in the master layer of graduate education. Then according to the survey results, this paper expands the analysis and discussion from three levels:mentoring relationship in teaching level; guidance relationship in scientific research level; employment relationship in economic level. It thinks that academic capitalism, as a new mode of knowledge production, makes a certain influence on the relationship between mentors and graduates in graduate education. At the same time, using the related theory of academic capitalism, it also analyzes the reason for the change of relationship between mentors and graduates from the following aspects:transition in national policy; promotion for the market-oriented idea; the increasing gap for the disciplines income. Finally, this paper puts forward the recommendations to improve the relationship between mentors and graduates from the three levels of teaching, research and system.The method of research mainly comprises literature, investigation and Comparative research. Literature method is to collect and collate the relevant research materials about academic capitalism and the relationship between mentors and graduates; it provides the theoretical basis for the feasibility and necessity of the analysis research from the perspective of academic capitalism. Investigation method, combined with the characteristics of this study, it conducts a questionnaire survey and interviews on parts of the science and engineering graduate students in universities, and then analyzes the status quo of the relationship between science engineering mentors and graduates in China. Comparative research mainly makes a brief analysis and comparison for changes on the relationship between mentors and graduates in the universities of the United States, Germany, Japan, and it provides useful experience for relevant research in this paper.
