As the outstanding talents for China’s economic and social development, graduate students of science and engineering are important human resources for China, and their employment quality is directly related to the realization of their own value and social value. This thesis intends to establish the assessment index system for their employment quality and explore the empirical effects and influence factors, using both qualitative and quantitative method and on the basis of the strategy which combines theoretical and empirical studies.First, this thesis reviews the main content and assessment systems for the employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering on the achievements of previous studies in China and abroad. Current assessment system for employment quality is mainly based on the research of employment quality in Europe and US, and the assessment systems are complex with various forms in China, and we have no assessment system for graduate students of science and engineering.Second, this thesis intends to establish the assessment system for the employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering based on the theoretical research, expert interview and field survey results. This system includes three indices of level1, seven indices of level2, and29indices of level3, and is later applied to the empirical studies of employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering from14universities of eight different cities in East, Central and West China with the methods of both analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. The results show that the employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering is in the middle level; employment efficiency is in the relatively high level; and overall employment quality and employment development trend is are in the relatively low level. From the results in the past five years, the employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering has been promoted with fluctuations in this period of time.Third, after analysis of the influence factors of employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering, both macro and micro-level factors empirically, this thesis constructs a regression model to test some hypothesis. At the macro level the quality of employment is affected by the economic growth rate, the speed of upgrading of industrial structure, the impact of higher education development and personnel training standards and other factors. On the individual level, this thesis shows that17factors can explain the change in the quality of employment up to33.3%. The top five factors are:career planning guidance satisfaction, the original domicile, English, full-time work experience and alumni connect, where the full-time work experience has negative effect.Finally, based on the empirical research, this thesis put forward the suggests to promote employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering with combining efforts from the state, universities, employment units, and students. The improvement of employment quality of graduate students of science and engineering depends on the macro and micro factors together, and only with these synergistic efforts, it will be improved gradually in the future.
