Writing is a kind of basic language skill,so English composition is the comprehensive embodiment of student's language competence.English writing has always been an essential part in English examination.According to the requirements of New Curriculum Standards for senior high school,English teachers should pay attention to English writing teaching.So improving writing ability can not be ignored in senior English teaching.In order to explore the effective English writing teaching methods,the author applies memetics into English writing teaching to assist students to improve their writing competence.Memetics reveals the rules oflanguage development,evolution and transmission.It can provide the new perspective for foreign language teaching.The research aims to solve two research questions: 1)Can English writing teaching based on memetics change students' attitude toward English writing? 2)What are the effects of memetics on improving students' writing capacity?This study is based on memetics theory.One class is chosen as the research subject.During the experiment,the author combines memetics theory with English writing lesson,the writing class is under the guidance of memetics theory.With the assistance of questionnaires,tests and interview,the author collects the reseach data which are calculated by SPSS software.The questionnaires were carried out before and after the experiment,investigating the changes of students' attitudes towards writing.There were two English writing tests to testify the effects of memetics on English writing teaching and to investigate the specific improvement of students' writing competence.Moreover,the author analyzed the compositions of two tests,which aims to examine the degree of students' mastery of the memes.The relevant results of quantitative study and qualitative study show that the application of memetics theory on senior English teaching do exert the positive effect on English writing.Firstly,the English teaching which under the guidance of memetics can change the attitudes of students and boost their confidence.Secondly,students' writing ability has obvious improvement in vocabulary application,sentence structure and paragraph structure,especially in sentence structure.
