Object: The present research explores the regulation effect of attribution on therelationship between gratitude and subjective well-being (SWB). And observe the effect ofone attribution retraining group therapy (ARGT) on gratitude.Method: In study one, three issues were researched: firstly, the effect of demographicfactors on gratitude; secondly, the relationship between gratitude and SWB wasinvestigated; thirdly, the effect of attribution on the relationship between gratitude andSWB was examined. The Revised College Students Gratitude Questionnaire (RCSGQ),General Well-Being Schedule (GWB), and Attribution Style Questionnaire (ASQ) wereused to measure students’ attribution style, gratitude and SWB, the sample was comprisedof300vocational college students in Suzhou. In study two,16pessimistic attribution students were screened out by ASQ, and wererandomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group receivedARGT per week for8weeks. The control group received no treatment. After ARGT, theattribution style, gratitude and SWB level were rescheduled, and the Group Efficacy Factorquestionnaire was administered in the experimental group.Result:(1) Demographic factors do not have a significant effect on gratitude.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between gratitude and SWB; students withdifferent gratitude levels show remarkable differences in SWB.(3) Optimistic attributionstudents’ gratitude is significantly higher than that of pessimistic students; students ofdifferent gratitude level have distinct differences on the overall attribution as well asinternal-external attribution and attribution stability.(4) ARGT can significantly changestudents’ attribution style; the effect of ARGT on gratitude improvement is significant; theeffect of ARGT on SWB improvement is not significant.(5)The most important group therapeutic factors are: existential factors and altruism.Conclusion:(1) attributional style can predict gratitude to some extent, gratitude canpredict SWB to some extent, and attribution can act as the regulated variable betweengratitude and SWB.(2) ARGT can significantly change students’ attribution style as wellas improve gratitude. ARGT can be used to promote gratitude.(3) The most importantgroup therapeutic factors are existential and altruism. In future study of ARGT these twofactors should be well utilized.
