Research On The Trend Of "Public Intellectuals"Negative Impact On College Students And The Countermeasures

In recent years, the thought of "public intellectuals" from the western world has caused great controversy in the academic and theoretical circles and exerted major influence. We can not deny that the emphasis and call of a real intellectual should "base on his specialty and scan the world" is not to blame. However, this trend in China embraces a clear political orientation, which strongly emphasizes the intellectual’s "independence" and "criticalness" and advocates that they should be beyond class limitations to be "a free floating class", independent of government ideology to challenge all the authorities and traditions, and even social antagonism. In essence, it is a bourgeois humanitarian thought with a philosophy of historical idealism, aims to alienate intellectuals, the party, and the people with their knowledge and fame wings for having a say. This trend has caused adverse effects on the college students for political views, outlooks on life and values as well s as their growth and talent. This paper takes the argument on meaning of "public intellectuals" as its basis, sums up the formation, development, main characteristics and essence, has a comprehensive analysis of the present situation and the origin of the thought on college students, and hence puts forward relevant countermeasures. The paper is divided into three parts:The first part:the connotation of "public intellectuals" ideological trend. This part mainly discusses the "public intellectuals" ideological origin, concept, basic features and essence. First of all, its historical background and development in western world and China are summarized. Secondly, different understandings about it are presented, on which the author explains his research angle and concept. Finally, the main characteristics of it are raised according to the preceding further analyzes its political essence.The second part:the negative impacts of "public intellectuals" on the contemporary college students. The author mainly launches the elaboration from three aspects:one is the description of the basic research, the research objects, methods and contents; two is the impacts on college students’political outlooks, views on life and values in details; three is the main causes of the negative effects on college students.The third part:the countermeasures of the "public intellectuals" ideological trend to college students. The analysis based on negative influence on college students and its reasons, the strengthening of "public intellectuals" ideological trend research, the improving of college students to use Marx’s literacy, the education of the socialist core value system, situation and policy, mental health and optimizing of the political, economic, cultural, public opinion environment.
