Michel Foucault (1926-1984), a French philosopher, thinker and historian,who is considered to be the20th century Nietzsche and the most important thinker after Sartre in French.His objective of thoughts and behaviour was the real world,by this way,he attempted to decompose the center and mainstream of the western cultural tradition. He described the difference between the modern power and the classical power in his book Discipline and Punish.He believed that traditional power was imposed to people from top to down through a powerful style,while,modern power was based on a hidden experienced sustained production of dispersion state penetrated into people’s daily lives. He used the knowledge of genealogy to research the operation of disciplinary power in school.In his mind, school is the extended space, where discipline techniques and means could display their powerful effectiveness.The discipline appears first in the classical era by the means of physical punishment.In the end of the18th century, a new kind of discipline power appeared,called symbol-technical. The modern discipline was born in the early19th century, included three kinds of techniques:level monitoring, normalizing judgment and inspection.schools are typical places run by the modern discipline. Foucault tends to think school education as a disciplinary power to run a positive sense, which was teach.The discipline power organized by many activities in schools, as a result, the educational process evolved into the disciplinary process, at the same time, school education become discipline education. The operation of discipline education should use three different kinds of means:monitoring, inspection, normalizing judgment and three different kinds of technology:space allocation and control, time allocation and control, physical control.On the one hand, discipline does play an irreplaceable role in modern school management and efficient operation,on the other hand, the man itself in educational life is neglected.As a result,the aim of education is not to facilitate the man to be a generative man,but to train the man to be a know bot or a instrument.The expectations of the denial of physical discipline and the pursuit of absolute freedom and liberation in school education are undoubtedly extreme and can not be achieved. What we should do is to remove the superstitious and abuse of instrumental rationality,then school education will return to its original purpose to get more practical significance.Therefore,We should advocate aesthetic education under the mode of discipline education to create a free,humanized and respectful educational context for individual lives.In this way,people’s spiritual awareness and dignity of life will be awakened,the objectification and alienation on human of discipline education is corrected.At last,people will achieve self-creation, generation and the filling of their spirit.Of course, this is not the only and absolute perfect strategy, but it is an effective way in this field.
