Mathematical modeling builds a bridge between knowledge and practical application inmathematics. Opening the school-based curriculum course Mathematical Modeling in the periodof high school is of profound significance to develop students’ mathematics applicationconsciousness and cultivate students’ innovative ability. Also, this course is beneficial for themathematics teachers to gradually transform mathematics teaching mode, from mere impartingmathematical knowledge to doing and make full use of mathematics. This paper mainly studies the teaching conditions of the school-based curriculum courseMathematical Modeling which is opened in nationwide high schools. The problem researched ishow to reform the current teaching to make it more scientific and reasonable. The content of thestudy includes the analysis of teaching conditions of the school-based curriculum courseMathematical Modeling, and analysis of the problems existing in the teaching process of theschool-based curriculum course Mathematical Modeling using the methods of literature researchand investigation research and giving appropriate advice and countermeasures to open theschool-based curriculum course Mathematical Modeling. The first chapter which uses the method of comparative analysis elaborates the developmentsituation of the school-based curriculum course and the school-based curriculum courseMathematical Modeling at home and abroad, putting forward the research issues identified inthis paper: How to teach the school-based curriculum course Mathematical Modeling morescientifically and reasonably. The second chapter provides a theoretical basis for how to open the school-based curriculumcourse Mathematical Modeling in high school by defining the definition of curriculum,school-based curriculum, establishment of mathematical model, the school-based curriculumcourse Mathematical Modeling and other relevant definitions and elaborating the understandingand awareness of the teaching objectives and requirements of school-based curriculum. The third Chapter analyses and investigates the teaching conditions of the school-basedcurriculum course Mathematical Modeling by the method of making interviews, which help usknow the conditions of development as well as the distress and problems in the process ofdevelopment. The fourth chapter puts forward the proposals to reform, according to the conditions andexisting problems of opening the school-based curriculum course, combining the practicalexperience of teaching which is acquired from the school-based curriculum course MathematicalModeling opened in the author’s high school, and from the several aspects of the basicrequirements of teaching, teaching content, teaching mode, teaching strategies, and evaluation ofactivities etc.. It also puts forward the teaching mode of “cooperative inquiry learning in agroup” from the basis of some theories, such as, constructivism learning theory and cooperativelearning theory to specify mode of teaching activities for the school-based curriculum courseMathematical Modeling in high school. The fifth chapter probes the rationality and effectiveness of teaching design of aboveschool-based curriculum course Mathematical Modeling by carrying out the teaching research ofcomparison experiments between two parallel classes.Opening the school-based curriculum course Mathematical Modeling should guide thestudents to apply knowledge in the process of learning and to learn in the process of applyingknowledge. And pay attention to going from life then back to life, making MathematicalModeling serve in real life, the analysis of the factual background material of the issues raised, analyzing and connecting the basic knowledge and skills of mathematics, and the flexibleconversion and application of basic knowledge skills of mathematics. We should also payattention to the cultivation of students’ non-intelligence factors. Through the MathematicalModeling teaching, we can not only enable students to enjoy acquiring and learning mathknowledge but also enable them to apply what they learn to practice. Therefore, we can makedull mathematical knowledge full of vitality, and overall improve the qualities of students tomeet the requirements of talents in society. The fundamental education and teaching at home is in a continuous process of reform. Theintroduction of the course Mathematical Modeling is an important aspect of the mathematicscurriculum reform. Strengthening the connection between mathematics and other subjects as wellas everyday life and reflecting the value of the application of mathematics play an important rolein the improvement of thinking and ability of students and the construction of school’sdistinctive curriculum. With the aim of displaying the main roles of the students in theschool-based curriculum course Mathematical Modeling opened in high schools, improving the students’ ability of establishment of mathematical model, and cultivating students to deal withproblems with mathematical thinking so that we can develop students’ awareness ofmathematical applications and their ability of innovation, we should teach students according totheir aptitude with different levels and adopt the teaching mode of “cooperative inquiry learningin a group” if the course Mathematical Modeling is opened in high school.
