In the new round of English curriculum and teaching reform, student assessment is the core. In accordance with the requirements of "English Curriculum Standard", what should be paid closer attention to the student amassment in middle school’English studies are:setting up the evaluation mechanism of both learning process and learning results, highlighting the combination of Formative Evaluation and Summative Evaluation and the combination of Quantitative Evaluation and Qualitative Evaluation; emphasizing the diversification in objectives、contents and means of evaluation; stressing the principle of making study serve the practical purpose and concerning about the development of students’comprehensive application capability of language.And the authentic assessment which under the influence of the Fourth Generation of Evaluation caters for the needs of the reform. As a new concept of education evaluation, authentic assessment advocates that the assessment runs through the teaching process, and suggests that students show their knowledge and abilities through solving authentic tasks, in order to help students getting the adaptive ability for real life and the creative ability. Therefore, the authentic assessment meets the new curriculum reform requirements and has great reference values for student assessment in high school.In this paper, a number of methods, such as documentary analysis, interview survey, questionnaire survey and observational study are adopted. After analyzing the connotation and characteristics of the authentic assessment, the paper studies the current state of authentic assessment in high school, and then analyzes the problems in the authentic assessment and finally attempts to find the solving measures for these problems. The research is divided into five parts:In order to clarify the necessity of this research, the first part mainly discusses the background information, current states, purposes and meanings, thinking process and methods of the research.Based on the former research results, the second part of this paper studies the authentic assessment in theoretical perspective, so that we can get the theoretical basis and guidance for the practical application of authentic assessment. And this part also shows that authentic assessment has a great significance on the student assessment.In the third part, the paper does some surveys to get the current state and main problems of authentic assessment in high school’ English study, showing that the current state of authentic assessment is not optimistic.The fourth part studies and analyzes the main problems of the authentic student assessment, then puts out some solving measures for these problems.In the fifth part, the study chiefly focuses on the practical exploration of authentic assessment in English teaching and learning.
