At present, the educational opportunity equity for male and female as an important aspectof educational equality has already been brought to the attention of the society. And toeliminate gender inequality from the curriculum and teaching is an important standard forrealizing the educational opportunity equity for male and female. The stage of middle andprimary school is the critical period for student’s formation of gender idea, textbook is one ofthe carriers of curriculum text, which is the main cultural text that students come into contactwith during the period of the school education. And it makes a large effect on the students’physical and mental development. Therefore, it is particularly important to penetrate theconcept of gender equality in primary and secondary school textbooks. Chinese is one of themain languages in the phase of primary and secondary schools, the highly concentrated socialgender mainstream culture in Chinese is unmatched by other courses. So, to research thegender problem of the junior middle school Chinese textbook has a far-reaching significance.The first part makes the Chinese textbooks for junior middle school from Shandongeducation press as the research object, and makes systematical statistical analysis and specificanalysis of the text of gender equity about the present situation of junior middle schoollanguage textbooks, in order to reveal the gender bias against women and girls in thetextbooks. At the same time, this study compare the object of study with tow other textbooksfor junior middle school from Jiangsu and People’s education press, and analyze thedifferences in appear frequency, profession, ability and personality traits of the male andfemale’s characters. Through the analysis and comparison, we can get that there is still seriousgender equity issues in the Chinese textbooks for junior middle school from Shandongeducation press, as much as in the textbook from Jiangsu and People’s education press. Bycontrast, there is much more improvement in textbooks from Shandong education press.In the second part, on the basis of analyzing the present situation of gender equity issues inChinese textbook for junior middle school, I sum up five aspects of gender equality issues intextbook, and I briefly analyze the adverse effects. This study believes that gender equityissues in the textbook may produce the following adverse effects: The first is not conducivefor students to form the correct gender consciousness; Secondly, it may influence students’ achievement motivation and career role; The last is unfavorable to establish a society withgender fair and harmonious.In the third part, this study has carried on the thorough discussion on the manifestation ofeach question, and through analysis I get the result that main causes of gender equity issues inChinese textbooks basically have the following several aspects: the influence of Chinesetraditional culture, the influence of gender role socialization and gender stereotypes, textbookcompilation’s collective unconsciousness about gender stereotypes, and so on.Finally, this study puts forward some suggestions on promoting the gender justice of thejunior middle school Chinese textbook which based on gender equity issues in the textbook.The suggestions mainly from the following several major aspects: nation, school, family andsocial public opinion, and from the concrete operation aspect of textbook writing. Countrystrengthens its own intervention and supervision function; Schools strengthen the genderconcept of teachers’ and students’; Families and society play the role of public opinion tosupport; The textbook writing requirements under gender justice view, what we need payspecial attention to is that textbooks should increase some modern women’s image withindependent status, new men’s and women’s role in the modern family image and professionaldivision of labor between men and women which different from the traditional concept.Chinese textbook as the important carrier of correct values, should play the role ofpromoting students to form correct gender concept. Under the premise of each performs itsown functions,such as country, schools, families and society, textbooks widely publicizemen and women’s image of equity and complementary in the society and family, students canestablish broad and perfect consciousness of gender roles.
