Middle school students are in adolescence. Learning is an important problem nowfacing them. They learn to develop their ability to adapt to social life, establish a correctoutlook on life and a correct outlook on the world. The middle school students’engagement of learning not only has a great influence on the academic performance ofthem, but also has a greater influence on their future development. Based on apsychological point of view, the study did some research on the concept, structure, stateand characteristics of the learning engagement.Their aim was to enrich the content oftheir learning investment, and provided a theoretical basis for the improvement ofmiddle school students’ learning engagement..This study talked about the middle school students’ learning engagement by usingliterature analysis, interviews, questionnaire survey and so on. Firstly, they reviewed theexisting literature,summarized the structure of the students’learning engagement.Secondly, they interviewed24middle school students through Behavioral EventInterview(BEI), and determined the content of learning involvement questionnaire formiddle school students. Based on the interviews, worked out the middle schoolstudents’learning engagement questionnaire. And then288middle school students weretested. Preliminary identified the structure of the students’ learning engagementthrought exploratory fctor analysis. and tested the reliability and validity of the formalquestionnaire. According to a survey of347middle school students, they probed intothe present situation and characteristics of middle school students’ learning engagement,and investigated the relation between learning engagement and self-efficacy, socialsupport. Finally, they did an investigation on4middle school students and analyzed thefactors that may affect the students’ learning commitment. The main conclusions wereas follows:(1)Middle school students’ learning engagement structure system is multi-dimensi-onal. It mainly includes the learning state, learning motivation, learning attitude andlearning experience of four factors.(2) The questionnaire of the students’ learning engagement has good reliability and validity, and it can be used as a surveying tool into the middle school students’ learningengagement.(3) The middle school students’ learning engagement is in the upper level.(4) There is no significant difference of learning engagement’s overall level aboutthe middle school students who have different gender or environment, but there is asignificant difference about the students who were in different grades.(5) There is a significant positive correlation between learning engagement andself-efficacy, social support. Besides, self-efficacy and social support has certainprediction of learning investment.(6) The interview research results show that middle school students’ learning inunder the influence of self-efficacy and social support.
