Fieldbus technology is an industrial site-level network communication technology, digital communications between field level devices can be achieved by it, the high demands of the control accuracy,speed and cost of the instrument in the modern industrial system are meet. PROFIBUS is an international fieldbus standard for factory automation and process automation, and has been listed as one of China’s national standards. PROFIBUS-DP is one part of PROFIBUS, designed for the communication between automatic control system and device-level distributed I/O, for high-speed data transfer between distributed control system equipments. With the rapid development of industrial automation, PROFIBUS-DP, with its stability and high speed is widely used in the field of industrial automation in China. Because PROFIBUS-DP devices are expensive, and installation and maintenance of them cost disadvantage, so it is difficult to apply in SMEs.To improve the above situation, a PROFIBUS-DP master was designed in this paper. It is consisted of S3C2440which is belong to ARM9series chips, and COM-CN-DPM which is belong to PROFIBUS-DP master protocol chips. The development program ensures the reliability and the timeliness of the development of the PROFIBUS-DP master. First, the hardware circuit was designed, the maintainability and scalability of the development were ensured by the design of core board and base board. Second, a software program was written in function. Finally, for the tests of the function of PROFIBUS-DP master, PROFIBUS-DP single-master, single-slave debugging system and PROFIBUS-DP single-master, multi-slave debugging system were found.The communication test between PROFIBUS-DP master and the PROFIBUS-DP Slave proved the communication function of the master is reliable. It is proved that the PROFIBUS-DP master can complete the control requirements of PROFIBUS-DP slave, by reading and setting the internal parameters of PROFIBUS-DP slave. The test results showed that the PROFIBUS-DP master designed in this paper, can achieve master functionality, reliably and economically. With the design, it is possible for PROFIBUS-DP Master widely used in SMEs.
