Along with the continuous development of mobile communication technology, theintegration of various wireless access technologies makes the heterogeneity of thenetwork become more complex, which also puts forward higher requirements tomobility management technology. Network handover technology, one of the mostimportant functions of mobility management in heterogeneous network environment, onthe one hand, needs to address the level of handover of the good tradition of thehomogeneous network, but also needs to provide effective vertical handover inheterogeneous networks solution.Proxy Mobile IPv6is a network-based mobility management technology and thehost does not participate in the process of mobile signaling. What’s more, host mobilitymanagement protocol stack almost does not need to be modified. So operators are veryinterested in PMIPv6. As a result, PMIPv6protocol was adopted by the3GPP as one ofthe handover management solutions for heterogeneous networks. The mediaindependent handover of MIH protocol can mask the underlying technology differencesfor the upper layer to provide a unified service. Therefore, we combine the MIHprotocol and PMIPv6protocol to study the network handover technology.First of all, the thesis analyzes that the handover delay of the MIH assisted PMIPv6network handover is shorter than that of the pure PMIPv6network handover fromWLAN isomorphic network and WLAN,3G heterogeneous network handover aspects.Based on it, the existing MIH handover process is expanded in two ways that are theproposed modified MIH and pre-handover MIH PMIPv6network handover scheme.Network handover process of improved MIH is added MIH_HO_Init request,MIH_HO_Init indication, MIH_HO_Init confirm and MIH_HO_Init response messages.The messages reach the current service MAG to notice MAG that MN is about tolaunch a network handover. The handover delay of the improved MIH assisted PMIPv6network handover is reduced as well as the network overheads of the wireless link.Pre-handover MIH assisted PMIPv6network handover program estimates the handoverdelay when the mobile node MN triggeres the Link Going Down event. A real-time link triggering message with the help of neighbor network message mades the handoverprocess completed before the current link is disconnected with the necessary handoverprocess, which reduces the network handover delay.Besides, the thesis proposes group bingding update architecture aiming atalleviating the shortage of the previously discussed network handover technology. MNG,(Mobile Node Group) algorithm and an extension of the original binding updatemessage are the main contents of the framework. The core idea of the MNG algorithmis the establishment of handover group after multiple mobile nodes need networkhandover simultaneously and the extention of the Proxy Binding Update message toregistrater the bingding of the multiple MNs for one time. The MNG algorithm reducesthe signaling load of the current service MAG, making the entire network handoverperformance optimized. Finally, we analyzes the handover delay and signalingoverheads with MNG algorithm in different network handover types and the analyzedresults verify the effectiveness of the MNG algorithm.
