Mobile ad hoc networks are communication networks built up of a collection of mobiledevices which can communicate through wireless connections. These mobile hosts frequentlyform a network topology without any centralized administration. Each node will act as a hostas well as a router and the data packets should be forwarded among the nodes. In order toforward the packet, routing protocols are needed. An ad-hoc network has certain features thatimpose new demands on routing protocols. The challenges of directing data packets from asource node to a given destination is particularly hard in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks(MANETs), due to the mobility of the network elements and the lack of the central control, robustness, adaptability in routing algorithms, and self organizing. A key challenge in suchnetworks is to design dynamic routing protocols that are efficient and consume less overhead. In this thesis we presented performance comparison of single and multipath reactiverouting protocols Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Ad-hoc On-demandMultipath Distance Vector (AOMDV). They are compared using four metrics: average end toend delay, packet delivery fraction, normalized routing load and throughput. An extensivesimulations using NS-2simulator is performed. The simulation has been done with variouspause time and maximum connection.
