With the continuous development of economic globalization, the faster transfer speedof industries among countries and the dramatic changes of the international labordivision, system of world value creation appeared in the whole world unprecedentedperpendicular depart and again compose and the economic activities of every countryjoined in the global production, trade, investment and consumption. So to speak,global value chain has become an important representation of economic globalization.In global value chain, developed countries controlled the high value-added link in thechain and transferred the low value-added manufacturing link to developing countriesvia industrial transfer, where left meagre profits to developing countries. Thisdevelopment mode in fact depends on low cost at the expense of resources andenvironment. Though such a mode objectively helped to engage developing ountriesinto the global value chain, it had been more and more difficult and requiredreformation and upgrade in urgent.This essay focuses on ceramics-the typical Chinese manufacturing industry andanalyses it via the combination of theoretical research and empirical research. Firstly,it arranges the industrial upgrade theories from the perspective of global value chainand analyses the general structure, stating Chinese ceramics’ value distribution, spacedistribution and value chain’s treatment in the global value chain. In the case study, itstudies ceramics in Foshan, which has certain representativeness and influence inChina in great detail. It first introduces the general situation and characters of Foshanceramic industry and then analyses the driving force and treatment of Foshan ceramicindustry from the perspective of global value chain, explaining that Foshan ceramicindustrial upgrade should be focused on the innovation procedure at the upstreamvalue chain and the marketing and branding parts at the downstream value chain.Later, it gives concrete strategic plans aimed at these parts. At last, this essaysummarizes Chinese ceramic industry in the global value chain and gives somereciprocal suggestions from the angels of enterprises, government and ceramic tradeassociation in the hope of helping Chinese ceramic industry at the turning point.
