UPM Company Competitiveness Study In Domestic Market

Chinese paper-making industry is under rapid developing, as a top player, UPMis facing an increasing challenge from the main three competitors, which are APP,SUN, and CM.First of all, through analyzing the characteristics of the Chinese paper-makingindustry and business, the framework of the competitiveness of the Chinesepaper-making enterprises was got. Then, based on this framework of thecompetitiveness, UPM, APP, SUN, and CM were evaluated and scored. Finally, theAHP method was used to test the competitiveness of those enterprises. According tothe results of the analysis and testing, recommendations on the enhancement of thecompany’s market capacity were provided.Comparing with the articles having the similar theme, this paper has made someinnovation. Firstly, the evaluation index system for analyzing the competitiveness ofthose paper-making enterprises was designed. The paper-making industry is differentfrom other industries, so the general competitiveness of enterprises framing effects isnot suitable for it. The framework built on the analysis of the characteristics ofChinese paper-making enterprises may solve the problem of the ineffectiveness of thegeneral framework. Secondly, the data and content come from the author’s ownindustrial practices and experienced people in the paper-making industry. Therefore,the data were close to the reality and useful for reference. Thirdly, the AHP methodwas used to analyze the evaluation index system of the competitiveness of thosepaper-making enterprises because the AHP method is helpful in balancing quantitativeand qualitative analysis.
