China’s basic national condition is “lack of oil, less gas and rich coal”. Accordingto the energy mix of China, in order to reduce dependent on oil imports, not only thedevelopment of coal chemical industry is to balance the energy consumption and aneffective measure, but also it is the inevitable choice for China’s energy developmentstrategy. In this context, the largest province of the coal resources is also vigorouslydeveloping coal chemical industry. Now there are largely three industry chains as coalcoking, coal gasification and coal liquefaction. Regional distribution of coal resources,coupled with the constraints and limitations of the resource endowments, environmentalcapacity, transportation and other factors, different regions will have focused to developcoal chemical industry. Considering the above factors, we should insist on the principleof controlling total production capacity, eliminating backward technology, makingrational use of coal resources, reducing environmental pollution, and promoting theconsolidation and reorganization. The important subject of our in-depth study anddiscussion is how to rationally plan and prior develop different types of coal chemicalindustrial chain.Based on the research topic, the paper researches the coal chemical industrydevelopment path. By studying the Industrial chain, value chain and industry economicstheory. On the basis of the system combing coal chemical industrial technology path,the paper uses system analysis method to sum up the different types of coal chemicalindustrial chain and analyze their functional effects. Secondly, on the basis oftheoretical studies, the paper analyzes the formation mechanism of the coal chemicalindustrial chain and sum up the influencing factors of the formation and operation ofcoal chemical industrial chain. On this basis, the paper builds the route choice model ofcoal chemical industrial chain, explores coal chemical industrial chain in different regions and provides a quantifiable basis for the coal chemical industry developmentpath. Finally, the paper uses coal chemical industrial chain route choice model to do anempirical analysis about Shaanxi coal chemical industrial chain and offer somesuggestions for its rational development. These suggestions provide a reference for localauthorities and coal chemical companies about coal chemical industry developmentpath.
