Costume culture which is set of national culture, customs, geographical features isa unique performance, it makes the person who wears costumes into a featured carrierof culture. A costume is not only a material culture visually, but also the shape ofcitizen’s life, furthermore, showing a richer cultural connotation, representing people’smental status. Costume culture is diverse, showing a varied and colorful world incitizen’s heart and in their environment.The Bai people from Lijiang mainly migrated from Heqing and Jianchuan in Dali,which was connected on territory nowadays, so it is mainly similar to the migrationzone in their cultural custom and costume custom. However, geographical change led tothe life change of the Bai people in environment, the Bai people moved to Lijiang. Atthe same time, they live together with other local ethnic groups in long-term coexistence,pluralistic social formation of various nationalities, religious beliefs and culturalpractices of interacting with each other, influence each other, making the costumes ofthe local Bai people culture is slowly changing, consequently forming unique featurecostumes culture of the various zones. The costumes of Bai people have abundantcultural connotations. It is different meaning from wearing custom to embroideryprocess. The costume of Bai people are not only the identified logo of the Bai ethnicidentity but also reference to the difference among different areas of the Bai people.Additionally, the costume of the Bai people can also express a personal aesthetic taste,defining the role in society, reflecting the living environment of the Bai people, carryingthe national culture.The changes of the Bai people costume were affected by the two factors bothinternal and external. The internal include the change of their own consciousness, thechanges of aesthetic tastes and religious beliefs; the external were formed of thechanges of living environment, the edification of social atmosphere and multi-cultureblend. The collective effect of the two kinds of factors made the costume culture of theBai people into simple one, Chinesization, the development of the adjacent family. Onthe one hand, the changes of costume culture emphasize the social rapid economicdevelopment and the national cultural open, on the other hand the retention of nationalculture face challenges. So when the society is developing, it is very vital that how toprotect national culture and heritage work.
