The implementation of the Reform and Opening-up Policy bringseconomic prosperity to China and foreign investment is an importantstimulation for China’s economic growth. Multinational companies arethe pioneer investors and they have made great contribution to thedevelopment of China’s economy. At the same time, the enhancinginvestment environment and the increasing qualified labor are attractingmore and more foreign multinational companies to set up subsidiaries inChina.On the basis of various theories and researches of interculturaladaptation and the factors influencing adaptation competence anddifferent intercultural adaptation model frameworks, this thesis intendsto investigate the adaptation of the Chinese employees in China-basedMNCs. The research takes the intercultural adaptation of Chineseemployees in a subsidiary of a multinational company whose parentcompany is in Germany as the objects of the questionnaire-based study. In the subsidiaries of a multinational company, the corporateculture which often stands for the national culture behind the parentcompany and the local national culture both exert great influence on thelocal employees. The effectiveness of intercultural communicationaffects the efficiency and quality of the company’s daily work. Theintercultural adaptation of the Chinese employees in a westernmultinational company is worthy of studying as the employees play animportant role in intercultural communication activities. An integrativemethod is employed in this study to explore the status quo of this group.Through the study in this thesis, the author finds some problems thatexist in their intercultural adaptation and proposes relative suggestions toimprove the effectiveness of intercultural adaptation activities.
