A Study Of The Development Of Wind Power In Gansu Province

The21st century witnessed the worldwide shortage of energy and at the same time environmental issue has attracted attention from almost all the countries in the world. Compared with other kind of energies, wind power, thanks to its low carbon, green and environmental-friendly nature, enjoys advanced technology, favorable development advantage and commercial potential.With the rapid economy development in China, wind power has been attached a great importance and the development of wind power has been accelerated markedly.With the fact that large scale wind power, coal fired power as well as hydro power on the upper and middle reaches of the Huanghe River and the Jialingjiang River have been gradually developed,the power gird of Gansu province faces both historic opportunities and critical challenges. The large scale surplus of power supply in Gansu province will result in the deficiency of coal fired power and dramatic decrease of generator unitizing hours, which will severely influence the profits of both power generation and power gird companies,weaken the earnings of power sector, and accordingly, the construction of energy-saving and environment-friendly society.In this context, how to resolve the difficulties occurred in the development of wind power has already become a critical and pressing issue that concerns the governments, enterprise as well as the stake holders.Thus, carrying out research in the field is of great importance. This paper, though with limited information available, will make an overall analysis of the development of wind power in Gansu province in terms of policy, organization, management and technology, and then propose some suggestions to facilitate the sound cycling and sustainable development of the wind power and contribute its share in achieving win-win situation among governments, power generators, power gird and the entire society.
