Construction industry is a key component of the national economy. This industry also has a strong connection with the development of national economy and improvement of people’s living standard. The rectification of the market, system construction and effective monitoring in construction industry is helping this industry in China enter into a healthy trail of development while it’s rapid growth.In the past two years, stimulated by the active financial policy, the scope of investment in the construction field has been growing and prevailed a great potential. Looking ahead in the coming 50 years, the urbanization will be beyond 76% while the contribution of city economy will be great than 95% of the total national economy. All the factors indicate a great potential market in construction industry.While the economy of rest of the world is under crisis, China is becoming the biggest market in the world. One of the key reason for this is due to the correct national policy, "focusing on economic development"Successful companies rely on good strategies, just like successful nation rely on successful strategies. As a middle size construction company, how can PD construction company survive and grow in a highly competitive market?---The strategy for company development meets the need of the market and fits the reality of company becomes vital.This thesis uses the methodology of SWOT analysis and Porter’s 5 competitiveness force model. By analyzing PD construction company’s both internal and external environment, the author concludes the company multi-dimensional strategies in a highly competitive industry---clarifies future business direction, explores the possible solution---the author points out the key steps to secure company’s core strategy "lay foundation on the construction and maintenances, support by bridge and drain rush repair and excel on highway and bridge testing".This thesis is formed up by 5 parts. The first part is introduction, which briefed the back group of the thesis, significance of the scope of the study. The second part emphases the external environment analysis, including national economy environment, industrial environment, competitive environment etc; The third part focus on the internal environment, including organization structure, qualification of cooperation, technology level. The forth part concluded a company overall strategy by the external and internal environment which influential to the company growth. The fifth part lays out the doable solution in fulfilling the strategy.Through massive research and first hard interviews, the author takes advantage of the knowledge in strategic management learned from the EMBA. The author then concluds the practical strategic development model for a middle size construction company in the highly competitive environment. The author expects to contribute the conclusion for the reference of similar construction companies.
