As a modern carrier of advertisement on the urban public transport, buses are best known for its strength in publicizing information outdoors and indoors, like POP and light box media. How to regulate bus advertising content and design, making it not only a powerful aid to city construction but better being integrated with urban characteristics, has guaranteed the sustainable development of urban buses.Through researching ads on buses, transit shelters and in-car DM magazines, this paper discussed its existing and potential problems and explored the design principles, so as to better its function in information spreading.The thesis can be divided into four parts. Chapter one reviewed literatures home and abroad on urban bus advertisements, introducing research themes and innovation. Chapter two is the theory exploration, analyzing advantages and disadvantages of bus ads and other advertising media, supporting the application study behind. Chapter three made research on the current situation of bus advertising design, trying to identify its problems by analyzing specific cases in buses, transit shelters and in-car DM magazines. Suggestions and discussions on adverting trends as well as design principles are putting forward. The analysis of the bus advertising of Zhengzhou and the application of early research results are explored so as to enhance its viability. Chapter four is a prospective study and conclusion on the urban bus advertising.Speculation on urban bus advertising is put forward in the last part of the thesis: the laws and regulations of urban bus adverting will be more strict and faultless. In mode of transmission, it will be transformed from one-way communication to interactive communication. By means of expression, it’ll be more electrified and digitized; In social function it’ll focus on information service and retrieval; in advertising carrier it’ll emphasize more on the development of media within buses, reflecting city image by unified planning public traffic facilities.
