Since proposed by Salovey and Mayer in1990, Emotional Intelligence hasgained more and more attention about its influence on people’s mature and success.The relationship between Emotional Intelligence and work performance is the hotissue of organizational behavior. The wide application of Emotional Intelligence hasindicated that an individual’s success does not only depend on his or her commoncompetences such as IQ and professional skills which are familiar to everyone, butalso depends on his or her emotional competence.How can an enterprise formulate its talents recruitment and training systemaccording to the practical demands and its internal and external environment so as toimprove the organization’s and the individual’s work performance? In order to solvethis problem, what effects Emotional Intelligence has and how it affects theemployees’ work performance through communication competence need to bestudied.At the moment, many researchers have proved that there is a positive relationbetween Emotional Intelligence and work performance. But there are a few literatureswhich study about the intervening variables in the relationship between EmotionalIntelligence and work performance. Almost no researcher has done the research aboutthe intervening effects of communication competence as an intervening variablebetween Emotional Intelligence and work performance to explore its workingmechanism. With the help of the previous research achievements and research methods, thisresearch has been done through questionnaire survey.215questionnaires have beengiven out, among which193are available. This research made the practical problemof management into a theoretical one and made an empirical research on therelationship among the employees’ Emotional Intelligence, communicationcompetence and their work performance.The findings are as followed:1. There is an obviously positive relation between the employees’ EmotionalIntelligence and their work performance.2. There is an obviously positive relation between the employees’ EmotionalIntelligence and their communication competence.3. There is an obviously positive relation between the employees’ communicationcompetence and their work performance.4. The employees’ communication competence has an intervening effect on therelationship between Emotional Intelligence and work performance.In a word, this research explored the working mechanism of how EmotionalIntelligence affects the employees’ work performance through communicationcompetence and enriched the empirical researches on the relationship among theemployees’ Emotional Intelligence, communication competence and their workperformance. At the same time, it also provides some theoretical guidance forindividuals and the organizations to improve their work performance.
