As the saying goes, the common people will live in peace and enjoy their work if being assured of their own settlement. Only if people are granted an undisturbed space to live and relax can they better adapt to their businesses and work. Primarily, building served ad the cohesion of different times. The transformations of rural settlements, or buildings, including the Crypt--mud thatched cottage, brick house, the reinforced concrete floor and the change in the form of residence, has created a vivid architectural history of human society and reflect the history of mankind in aspects of political, economic and cultural changes.Establishing the statement within the analytical framework of the theory of socialization of petty farmers and adopting of empirical research method, the thesis selects Lin village in Huaiyang County to target farmers building as the research object and the starting point, examining the farmers in the process of historical changes. The history of farmers’housing was divided into three stages:in the first phase from1949to1979, farmers mainly constructed masonry room. The farmers at this stage primarily concerned earning work points owing to the collective economy and construct their houses through their own labor with the materials acquired from local natural resources. The second stage is from1979to the late1990s when farmers build brick houses. This stage marked the "relaxation" policies of the country to farmers. Due to the initial development period of rural market, the farmers flowed into the market to sell grain to raise housing funds. They hire construction workers and seek some of the raw building materials in the market. In the third phases from1998to the present during which the abolition of agricultural tax plus agrarian subsidies provide a further easing environment and the farmers’social status is enhanced considerably, the farmers are fully integrated into the market and construct buildings with funds mainly earned from their work outside the home, business. They are able to hire relatively professional construction team to build their houses while building materials fully count on the market. This three-stage process of change reflects the process of socialization of the petty farmers. Finally, the article discussed the current "hollowing out" phenomenon of the sample village and made some points on the new village construction.Examining the historical changes of the behavior of farmers’house building, the thesis finally confirmed the theory of the society of petty farmers and proposed that the fundamental driving force of peasant society is the change of state and market. In the concluding section the author explores the relationship between the countries and petty farmers, petty farmers and market.
