In this paper, the study on the carbon footprint of energy use and economic development inBohai Economic Rim mainly consists of four parts:The first part is mainly about relevant theories of the carbon footprint of energy use andeconomic development. The most important theories are ecological footprint theory and EKCtheory. The concept of the carbon footprint comes from the theory of ecological footprint, and theEKC theory is used to research whether the carbon footprint of energy use has reduced with thedevelopment of economy. I also introduced the related theory of the carbon footprint, such as thesustainable development theory, the circulation theory, the ecological economic theory and greeneconomy theory. The second part mainly introduced the carbon footprint of energy use. This is the core partof this paper, the study based on the statistics of the carbon footprint of energy use, value ofcarbon footprint and the carbon footprint intensity in Bohai Economic Rim from1990to2009. Iconcluded that the carbon footprint of energy use is increased year by year, the value of carbonfootprint is low, and the carbon footprint intensity is high. The third part mainly discussed the empirical study of the relationship between the carbonfootprint of energy use and economic development in Bohai Economic Rim from1990to2009; Iconcluded that the environmental improvement has not happened with the development ofeconomy in Bohai Economic Rim.At last, I put forward some suggestions on three aspects: promoting the development of thelow carbon economy, adjusting the structure of industry and promoting the the development ofmodern service industry in Bohai Economic Rim.
