Analysis On The Interdependent Relationship Between The Pearl River System Water Transportation And Regional Economy

China possesses excellent water transportation natural conditions and has a long historyof water transportation. Many rivers and lakes can hold ships, and a long coastline supportsthe overseas trade of our country. Water transportation is a general condition of socialproduction,meanwhile it is a part of social productive force. Water transportation has manyadvantages, such as large volume, requiring small land, low cost, small energy consumption,less pollution and so on. The Pearl River System has got great development in the pastdecades, and has played an important role in the transportation system of our country. Butwith the development of the economy and the improvement of people’s life, various industriesare in continuous change, thus the development of water transportation exist many problems,now water transportation is facing great opportunities and challenges. It is now in the early ofthe drawing up and the implementation of the12th Five-year Plan, the problems about thedevelopment of water transportation cause the focus and thinking of all sectors of our society.Under this background, studying the interdependent relationship and interaction between ThePearl River System water transportation (specific reference to Guangdong Province) and theeconomy of Guangdong has profound significance to contribute to the rapid and healthydevelopment of The Pearl River System water transportation, so that The Pearl River Systemwater transportation can play a more important role in the development of the economy in thefuture.This paper studies the relationship and interaction between The Pearl River System watertransportation and the regional economy of Guangdong,which is to illustrate the level ofdevelopment of The Pearl River System water transportation, on this base, to forecast thepotential of The Pearl River System water transportation in the future, so that we can grab theopportunity, promote the development of water transportation of Guangdong Province, whichconform to the ideal of “transform the development mode of transportation, adjust structure”in the12th Five-year Plan about integrated transportation system.By means of studying the papers related and field research, we can understand thecurrent situation of the development of The Pearl River System water transportation and theregional economy of Guangdong.By constructing the theoretical system of interdependentrelationship, we can analyze the relation between The Pearl River System water transportationand the regional economy of Guangdong and work out the contribution ratio of watertransportation on the regional economy. Then the paper simulates the relationship by using thesystem dynamics theory, forecast and analyze the development of water transportation. Finally,by comparison of water transportation and other modes of transportation,we cananalysis the development advantages of water transportation.After studying the experiencesabout the development of inland water transportation of other countries,put forward somesuggestions related on the development of The Pearl River System water transportation.The results show that The Pearl River System water transportation and the regionaleconomy of Guangdong depend on each other, that is the development of water transportationpromotes the growth of regional economy, and the development of regional economy providessufficient supply of goods and development space for water transportation. The Pearl RiverSystem water transportation has long-term development advantages on the transportationcapacity, the transportation costs, the energy consumption, the investment returns, theadjustment of industrial structure and the contribution to the regional economic growth rate.The Pearl River System water transportation should get more attention from all sectors of oursociety, and develop towards the direction of modernization.
