Since the beginning of the21st century, the city has increasinglyfocused on the brand visual identity, to some extent, the molding of visualimage of the brand is more important than competition. Though thecompetition among cities or geographical regions has shown to be a fiercesituation, this competition has no longer a single image of cities orgeographic competition, but the overall image of the competition.The whole city image design is becoming an important strategic tool ofurban development and competition. More and more governments of citiesat home and abroad with a forward-looking vision have or are building theircity’s overall image design system, carefully shaping the image of thecharacteristics of the city to build the city’s calling card and establisha city brand.The visual image seems to be a pan-theme, which includes variousaspects of questions. For example, a brand from a product, a city, or evena country, will all have their own visual image. This study, a combinationof the graduation project, is based on the research and exploration ofthe visual image of Hangzhou city characteristics, done by theenvironmental features of the new Hangzhou, the new West Lake ", andfurther reflection associated with a series of design problems.Through the study on new visual image about the Hangzhou and the WestLake, this paper, from the perspective of theory and methods, would toseek a new visual style and image which reflects these two places’ newvisual styles and images from the meaning of the time and the formal style.Thus, we could think about how to design a new generation of designproducts reflect the city’s character.
