Complexity research is the direction of scientific development in this century. Complex system is often composed by a large number of elements, and is an non-equilibrium open system with nonlinear, dynamic, uncertainties and evolving characteristics. Modern large-scale specialized container terminal logistics system is a complex system, there are many engineering problems. Inspection of the frontier literature shows that little scholars study the complexity of the problem of the container terminal logistics systems from the complex systems science. This research work can lay some academic foundation for studying and solving the complexity of the problem of the container terminal logistics system for in-depth systematic, but also can fill an academic blank on the study of container terminal logistics system, mainly the following aspects:(1) It qualitatively analyzes the complexity of the Container terminal logistics system, and describes the composition of the container terminal logistics system, the dynamic behavior and the state variables and dynamic process with feedback control. It analyzes the complexity of terminal environmental effects, size, layout of forms, and complexity in the organization of production and implementation process, including production information input, the input of vehicle and ship, the weather, the number of berths, a different layout structure and the loading and unloading of the ship and the collection and distribution operation of other factors affecting the complexity of the wharf.(2) The paper analyzes the complex characteristics of the container terminal logistics system from macroscopic, midscopic and microscopic aspects, and then analyzes the complexity source from the layout of the different forms, and discusses its static complexity from the container species complexity, structural complexity and the process complexity.(3) According to the basic theory of the information entropy, the paper defines the basic meaning of the container terminal logistics system complexity, establishes a computational model of the complexity of the part and the whole structure of the container terminal logistics system. It can comprehensive evaluate the complexity of the terminal from part to whole, for example, it can be used for calculating the structural complexity of the different number of blocks in the yard, and analysing and evaluating the different yard layout programs. Its value is bigger, indicating that the system structure is more complex.(4)The paper takes the terminal network structure for target, and discusses the calculation methods of the structural complexity measure of the terminal road network based on information entropy theory. Through the calculation of the complexity of the network nodes, it can analyze and compare the complexity of the road network intersections, seeking to optimize the distribution of the complexity of the road nodes. It can compare the advantages and disadvantages of the different road network structure of the terminal design, and make the program selection, though calculating the complexity of the terminal road network.This paper takes in-depth study on the complexity of the container terminal logistics system under the guidance of complex systems science, and expandes the theoretical analysis space to improve the level of container terminal planning and design. The findings have important academic value and engineeringsignificance.
