Global warming is getting more and more general concern in the world. The large dis-charge amount of carbon dioxide is the main reason for the Earth’s rising temperatures inrecent years. To effectively inhibit the rapid growth of the carbon dioxide emissions,it isparticularly important to study the influencing factors of carbon dioxide emissions. The exist-ing studies suggest that the CO2emissions coming from combustion of fossil fuel caused byhuman activity accounts for about95.3%of the total carbon emissions. There is a high corre-lation among economic development, energy consumption and carbon emissions. How toeffectively control and reduce CO2emissions under the premise of maintaining sustainedeconomic development, that is a concern subject in the current academic and governmentsectors. As a major economic province, since the reform and opening up,with the rapideconomic development, the carbon emissions continue to increase in Guangdong Province.In-depth study of the CO2emissions growth drivers in the economic development ofGuangdong Province, which can make emission reduction policies with a well-definedobjective in mind.It has important theoretical and practical significance for the developmentof low-carbon economy and addressing climate change.Based on the basic equation of carbon emissions, using the logarithmic mean Divisiadecomposition method (Logarithmic mean Divisiaindex-LMDI),according to the variation ofcarbon emissions,1997to2010is divided into seven time periods. The paper has discussed thegrowth rate of CO2emissions about final energy consumption and the contribution of11kindsof drivers in phases in Guangdong Province. At the same time,on the basis of thedecomposition, the paper made a comparison analysis about average annual growthrate of CO2emissions and its factors between the country and Guangdong Province in1997-2010,and studied the positive and negative impacts of the driving factors of carbonemissions, revealed the reasons for the increase of carbon emissions more than10years in Guangdong Province, and finally made effective countermeasures to reduce carbonemissions in Guangdong Province.Through the above analysis, the main conclusions in this article are:(1) from1997to2010,the average annual growth rate of CO2emissions is7.67%;positive drivers of carbonemissions:per capita GDP,the number of modes of transport, the total population, economicstructure, energy consumption per unit length of transportation routes and the average familyincome, the respective average annual contribution:7.28%,3.20%,1.73%,0.45%,0.31%and0.26%;negative driving factors:the energy intensity of the production sector, the averagetransport routes and fuel structure, the average annual contribution:-4.59%,-0.89%and -0.21%.(2) per capita GDP growth is the largest positive drivers of carbon emissions,CO2emissions are closely related to economic development and living standards;(3) from1997to2010,the decline in energy intensity of production sector is the most important negativedrivers of carbon emissions, thus reducing the energy intensity of the production sector is akey measure to reduce CO2emission. |
