Trans-department project has been playing an increasingly important role in modern enterprises and building an efficient project team will be necessary before starting a trans-department project. A good team can integrate the advantage, skill and knowledge of different departments to the excite potential of team members. The team’s performance management will be the key in the whole process.Of all the issues facing project managers, project team management, which is part of the project human resources management, is perhaps the most important as well as the most difficult one. Few of the large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises in China are concerned about the project management and trans-department project team building. Although project team management is used in some enterprises in the form of project teams and offices, most of them are not working efficiently.Based on the systematic study of the performance management for project teams, this paper focuses on the establishment of the performance management system for trans-department project teams and the problems raised from the implementation of the system. Combined with the popular performance rating method, how to make performance assessment target will also be discussed.It is possible to foresee that more and more trans-department project teams will be built and used in the future, which has made it a necessity to develop a long-standing as well as effective performance management method for the project team. The whole significance of this paper lies in developing and optimizing a performance management system for project teams.
