An Analysis Of International Competitiveness Of Shaoxing’s Textile And Clothing In Post-Crisis Era

The textile industry is a superior industry and leading industry in Shaoxing City. Itaccounts for more than half of the city’s economy. Shaoxing textile industry relying onKeqiao Textile City market, has developed into a industry with obvious competitiveadvantage. However, in the current international financial crisis, Shaoxing textileindustry suffered a serious blow. Researching the international competitiveness ofShaoxing’s textile industry can get a better understanding in it’s development andpotential. To study the international competitiveness of Shaoxing’s textile industry inpost-crisis era will contribute to submit suggestions to promote the Shaoxing textiledevelopment with more realistic significance.Based on the culculation of indices of MS, TC and RCA relating to internationalcompetitiveness of Shaoxing’s textile and clothing, the present paper is to made ananalytic by utilizing Poter’s Diamond Model for the factor endowment, internationaldemand, relevant industries and enterprises’ strategy, structures and competitivenessand it made a few suggestions are provided for the development of Shaoxing’s textileand clothing in post-crisis era.The results show that the competitive advantage of Shaoxing’s textile industrycomes mainly from low labor costs, cheap raw material costs, domestic marketpotential, slack domestic policy. Factors which play a negative impact in terms ofcompetitive advantage are the low quality of labor force, low labor productivity, lowvalue-added products, shorting of R&D investment, international trade friction. Thedata showed that despite the Shaoxing textile exports still has a obvious comparativeadvantage, but the growth trends will slowdown and the competitiveness will lack ofpotential.
