Chinese fabrics have been in advantage status in global fabrics trade all the time, which is the important power of China's foreign trade increasing and employment stabilizing. With the termination of ATC (Agreement on Textiles and Clothing) on January 1, 2005, world fabrics trade steps into free trade era. Chinese textile industry will participate in international competition in more open environment. It is useful to adjust fabric's export strategy, promote its international competitiveness, and consolidate its advantage status in international competition that the international competitiveness result of Chinese textile industry in post-ATC era has been appraised. This text appraises Chinese international competitiveness of textile industry in terms of competitiveness result by using empirical study method.First, the text analyzes two main markets'(U.S.A. and E.U.) current situations of fabrics trade and ATC termination's influence to the international competitiveness of Chinese textile industry. Then on the basis of combining Jin Pei, Pei ChangHong and Zhang Jinchang's evaluation index systems of the industry international competitiveness, it constructs the multi-level evaluation index system, and confirms the weight of every evaluation index by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Then it calculates 2002-2005 composite indexs and variable indexs of the international competitiveness of textile industry in the main countries by using composite index approach on the basis of data collecting and dealing. After appraising the international competitiveness result of Chinese textile industry by index ranking, it comes to the basic conclusion: Chinese textile industry demonstrates stronger international competitiveness in post-ATC era, but it will be faced with increasing sharply international market competition and trade frictions.
