Catering industry is an important life industry that closely connected with people’s life and closely related with people’s livelihood, and also is an important part of the third industry. With the development of economy and the improvement of people’s living standard, catering industry is becoming more and more important in the national economy.The scale of catering industry is becoming large year by year. Until2010the legal person enterprise of China’s catering industry has reached21595, and the number of employees up to2.203million, accounting for0.84%employees of the third industry. Especially in the21century, the sales of China’s catering industry keep growing fast, the average speed of growth up to16%every year, and the sales reached319.51billion Yuan in2010. Catering industry is important for human’s survival and development, plays an important role in the economic development, especially in the service industry.So researching on catering industry is very meaningful.The Catering industry of Sichuan has a long history. The unique natural conditions is the material base to the prosperity of catering industry. And as one branch of Chinese most important catering, the catering of Sichuan has expanded quickly. In the beginning of2005, Chengdu was awarded the title of "THE CITY OF CATE "by UNESCO, it is the first city of Asia won this award in the world. While the catering industry in Sichuan with such great opportunities, study the catering industry of Sichuan and its impact on the social economic development have positive significance.How is the competitive of Sichuan’s catering industry? Can the Sichuan’s catering industry spread over the country and expand its influence by strategic promotion? These are my focus in this dissertation which aims to analyze current situation of the competitiveness of Sichuan’s catering industry and explore how to promote its core competitiveness. This paper has introduced the general theory of industrial competitiveness to catering filed, made some corrections and supplement to the Michael Porter’s Diamond Theory, constructed the theoretical framework for the research of competitiveness of catering industry, and made complete discourse on the theory connotation of catering industry’s competitiveness on the basis of analyzing the catering industry characteristics.This paper has set up a index system to evaluate the competitiveness of catering industry and analyzed empirically the domestic competitiveness among regions on the basis of theoretical analysis. Comparing to developed regions, the scale of Sichuan’s catering industry is small, there’s large space for improving industrial competitiveness.Finally, basing the previous analysis, the corresponding tactics are put forward in this paper for promoting the industry competence from aspects of brand, chain operation, human resources and so on. We hope it helpful to the development of Sichuan’s catering industry.
