Researches On The Coordination Between China’s Urbanization And Economic Growth

The city is the centers of economy, culture and information in a region. Theurbanization is the accompanying phenomenon of Industrial Revolution and acountry cannot accelerate its economic development without urbanization. Fromthe history of city development, we can see that there is a positive correlationbetween urbanization and the economy growth. As the urbanization comes in theperiod of rapid development, the problems of social, transportation, environmentcaused by urbanization have become increasingly prominent. Only if there is aharmonious relationship between the urbanization and the development of theeconomic growth, the urbanization can play a positive role in increasing economicefficiency and achieving sustainable economic growth. It is extremely important tojudge the questions such as which stage China’s urbanization is at, whether thereis a harmonious relationship between the urbanization and the development of theeconomic growth, and how to take the correct strategy to promote the harmoniousrelationship between the urbanization and the development of the economic growth,since China’s urbanization is during the transforming period.In order to investigate the status of coordination between urbanization andeconomic growth, normative methods are combined with positive methods andqualitative analysis is integrated with quantitative analysis. On the basis of theory ofthe interaction between urbanization and economic growth, to combo the domesticand international urbanization process, it helps us to sum up the characteristics ofurbanization, summarize the issues during China’s urbanization and exploreopportunities to promote the harmonious relationship between the two respects.The dissertation includes the following parts:First, the dissertation discusses the interactional systems betweenurbanization and the economic growth and introduction of technological innovationas the intermediary of the two respects. It is in favor of providing a new way ofthinking to understand the relationship of urbanization and the economic growth inour country at this stage. Second, breaking the traditional single index evaluation method, thedissertation adopts the factor analysis method which selects16indicators involvedfour areas of demographic, economy, society, environment to reflect the overalltrend of the urbanization process and status of various regions. The result showedthat China’s level of urbanization is in the stage primary to intermediate; thedifference among the regions is fairly large; the eastern region’s urbanization levelis much higher than the middle region’s, and the middle region’s is higher than thewestern region’s. various provinces play different performance in the four aspectssuch as basic elements of urbanization construction, the industrial structure, thequality of urban life and infrastructure.Third, using the coordination degree method to measure the coordination ofChina’s urbanization and economic growth, the results show that both the China’seconomic growth and urbanization are not in high degree. There is difference incoordination degree of economic growth and urbanization among various provinces,eastern high, western low. It is required to improve the entire western region’seconomic growth level and urbanization level.Fourth，the dissertation summarizes the characteristics of urbanization throughcombing the domestic and international process of urbanization, which combinedwith the coordination degree of the status of China’s urbanization and economicgrowth conclude that there are some problems during China’s urbanizationprocess such as irrational structure of urbanization, under-developed infrastructure,landless peasants’ difficulty to find job, urban development space out of control,environmental pollution.Finally, combing the results of theoretical analysis and empirical analysis, thedissertation attempts to explore possible ways to promote the coordination degreeof China’s urbanization and economic growth. The methods include implementationof the development of differentiation strategies, creating a new innovation-drivegrowth model, building an effective mechanism to protect the interests of landlesspeasants.
