In the twenty-first century, modern service industry is graduallyreplacing the traditional service industry, as a new, urban-basedsmoke-free industry-exhibition is increasingly becoming a major brightspot in the service. Shanghai, as China’s largest economic center, alreadyhas location advantages, economic base and industry scale to developMICE industry. In "Tenth Five-Year Plan" of Shanghai Government,exhibition is of much importance. Shanghai government established astrategic objective to develop Shanghai into an "International Conventionand Exhibition Center City". The2010World Expo will promote thecompetitiveness of Shanghai exhibition industry considerably. However,exhibition industry itself has its own shortage. Compared to otherdeveloped cities, there is still a big gap. Therefore, it makes sense to dosome research about the competitiveness of Shanghai exhibition industryand find out the solutions to promote Shanghai exhibition industry. In this essay, author utilizes Porter’s Diamond Model as a frameworkto analyze Shanghai’s exhibition industry. Author conducts a detailedanalysis of Shanghai exhibition industry from production factors, industrydemand, support and related industries, business strategy, structure andcompetition, opportunities and government. After analyzing of exhibitionindustry, author finds that pavilion, employees, famous exhibition,management mechanisms are constraining the competitiveness ofShanghai exhibition industry. In the fifth part of the essay, authorproposes some strategies to enhance the competitiveness of Shanghaiexhibition industry.
