With the rapid development of globalization and the informationeconomy, enterprises are facing more fierce competition and challenges. Inthis case, enterprises have to either survive or develop themselves viacontinuous transformation and innovation, in order to meet morecomplicated customer needs. Undoubtedly, innovation is vital importancefor the modern enterprises, it is not only one of the most powerful drivers ofthe rapid development for enterprises, but also a key factor to maintainsustainable competitive excellence.Innovation in enterprises is ultimately derived from the creativity of theemployees, which is shaped not only by individual factors but alsoorganizational behaviors, and subjects to the historical, cultural, and socialidiosycracy. This research aims to analyze the relationship between openness and workplace creativity, as well as the leader-member exchange’s impact onthis kind of relationship.This research starts from the academic definitions of openness, creativebehavior and leader-member exchange. It analyzes the relationship betweenopenness and creative behavior based on both existing theory and practicalexperience, as well as the possible affect of leader-member exchange on thisrelationship, thereafter eventually comes out research assumptions. Thisstudy uses the existing domestic and international standard questionnairesurvey method, via analysis of variance, correlation analysis, regressionanalysis, and statistical method.This study targeted Chinese enterprises, conducted a questionnairesurvey of227team members and their direct superiors, and simulatedstatistical analysis of the test results. The results showed that:(1) Individualswho are high on openness exhibit higher levels of creative behavior.(2) Theleader-member exchange has moderation effect on the relation betweenopenness and creativity.According to the conclusions, the individuals who are higher onopenness probably have higher levels of creativity, meanwhile, if they havehigher quality leader-member exchange, the creativity level will be evenhigher. Based on the results, the study suggests in practical work: HR department should put those candidates who have higher openness in priorityif job postion needs more creativity; the management may pay attention toimprove the superior-subordinate relationship to better encourage opennessstaff’s creativity; those empolyees who want to do better in creativity workneed to develop the leader-member exchange as well.
