With the gradually faster urbanization process in China, ecological and livablecity has become the construction goal of many cities, but academia does not have amature and widely accepted ecological and livable city evaluation system yet. And inthe existing ecological city or livable city evaluation system, satisfaction of theresidents which is an important subjective indicator is not given sufficient attention,so the current evaluation system cannot give an objective and true reaction of theecological and livable level of a city.Through the existing views about ecological and livable city, this paper proposesthat the satisfaction of the residents has an important impact on the assessment ofecological and livable city, but was ignored, and proposes an innovative assessmentindexes system based on the satisfaction of the residents, which combines ecologicalindex and livable index. Further study is made about the important guiding role of thesatisfaction of the residents in the construction of ecological and livable city. Thisresearch has some practical significance for the construction of ecological and livablecity.Firstly, this paper briefly introduces the research background and significance, the research methods, the structure and its innovations. Secondly, according to thispaper’s research scope, it analyzes and summarizes home and abroad related researchachievements about ecological city and livable city. Thirdly, it describes anassessment indexes system for ecological and livable city based on the satisfaction ofthe residents and its calculation method, and determines a variety of data needed forthe evaluation through the literature review and questionnaire survey. Finally, theempirical research based on Beijing Shanghai and Tianjin proves that if we access theecological and livable level of the city based only on the objective index, it cannot beaccurate. Unless we take into account the idea of the residents to the indexes systemas an important factor, we would not be able to reflect the real level of the city orcoordinate with the actual experience of the residents. The empirical study based onTianjin has shown that the satisfaction of the residents plays an important guiding rolein urban construction.
