Research On The Constraint Conditions And Strategic Countermeasures Of The Construction Of Shanghai International Rinancial Center

Shanghai, holding the leading position of China’s economic development, is nowthe economic and financial center of China. Been proposed "to build Shanghai into aninternational economic, financial and trade center in the world" since the release of14th Party Congress report, the construction of an international financial center hasbecome the primary goal of Shanghai’s economic construction which also underlies itspredominant importance to state’s strategies. How to use cutting-edge economictheories to guide the construction of Shanghai international financial center, from thelevel of industrial policy to promote the realization of this ambitious goal, is animportant and urgent issue.In the context of the booming global financial industry and the rising ofemerging financial markets, the financial industry agglomeration theory has becomeone of the key research areas of economics, sociology and geography and financialcenter theory is also the application of financial industry agglomeration theory inpractice. It is of positive implications to research on the financial industryagglomeration formation and evolutionary mechanism as well as the dynamics andbarriers in its practices.Firstly, this thesis summarizes the research results of domestic and foreignfinancial centers and the current research literatures on financial industryagglomeration, and then closely analyzes the influence of financial industryagglomeration formation and evolutionary mechanism toward the construction ofinternational financial centre. Selecting and analyzing London International FinancialCenter as a referential case for Shanghai, this thesis discovers the crux and constraintconditions of building Shanghai as an international financial center based on theanalysis of current financial industry agglomeration status and characteristic inShanghai. At last, this thesis proposes the strategic countermeasures from perspectivesof the core functionality of financial centre, financial innovation, the regulatoryenvironment upgrading, and financial talent fostering strategy to Shanghai.
