In order to study the impact of rural social security system on agriculture economicdevelopment, this paper chooses Japan’s agriculture, with a successful development after theSecond World War, as the research object. This paper first comprehensively studies and analyzesthe rural social security system and the development of postwar agriculture in Japan. Severalcharacteristics of rural social security system in Japan are found, such as a wide coverage, a highsecurity level and a complete content. The great success of postwar agricultural development inJapan should owe to a series of rural development policies and the financial supports provided bythe government, and the most important is the establishment of rural social security system withurban-rural integration. Then this paper focuses on the analysis of different aspects ofagricultural development in Japan: age structure of rural population, income of agriculturalemployees, operation scale of farmer and mechanization level of agriculture. The results showthat the rural social security system in Japan has different impacts on those aspects mentionedabove, a more obvious impact on the first three aspects but a weak impact on the mechanizationlevel of agriculture. Finally, according to the current situation of rural social security system inChina, this paper proposed several inspirations to establish a sound rural social security systemin China referenced that in Japan.
