In the engineering project management, the project duration, cost and quality control of project management is an important goal, and it runs through the whole process of project management. With the rapid development of information economy, the association between each element in the project is more and more strong; the integrated management demand to the important target in the project is more and more high. Project integration management has become the key factors influencing project success; it is the most important global and integrated management work in project management.The traditional project management method is controlled the engineering project progress and cost separately, it is taken by the single factor variance analysis method, this method not only ignores the close link between the various elements of the project, and the performance analysis to the project control elements is not sufficient, sometimes even misleading, these bring a lot of problems to the project management job. However, we can realize the goal of each engineering project target integrated management in application of earned value management method in the project management. Earned value management integrates two control objectives, cost and schedule, to overcome the defects of control the project target separated in the traditional management method. Through the earned value index calculation of each detection points in the implementation of projects, reflect the project current operation situation, forecast the possible cost overruns or time delay in the future, and according to the project status adjust and control the project target deviation in time, through this kind of uninterrupted management and control, so as to realize the whole project monitoring, to ensure the successful implementation of the project.In this paper, to the standard theoretical research method based, according to the large number of domestic and foreign references, based on the earned value management research present situation, sums up the earned value management theory formation process. Based on the specific reviews to the earned value management theory, the basic parameters and analysis methods, clarifies the earned value method general application process in engineering project management. At the same time, in the process of analysis and research the earned value management index system and integrated elements, also found the earned value management itself has some problems, including the earned value management evaluation index system existing problems and limitations, prediction index system without considering the time factor changes, earned value management integrated elements incomplete and control process does not distinguish between critical and non-critical path etc.. This paper researches the outstanding achievement of earned value management method, put forward the following improvements:First, according to the statistical index analysis principle, adjusted the cost evaluation indicators, so that the earned value management evaluation index is more accurate, avoid bring error information to the project management because of the wrong index calculation; Second, to improve the progress evaluation index, put forward the key path control method, and based on the time and the critical path schedule evaluation index, to overcome the defects of the original evaluation index does not distinguish between critical and non-critical path, so that project managers can strengthen the critical path project control, so as to make a more accurate, scientific project decision; Third, comprehensive consideration of the project cumulative performance and time performance, confirm the project team overall job performance, in the project forecast considering the pre-project condition for the influence for the duration of the project; Fourth, through the introduction of the engineering quality cost, improvement the earned value management integrated elements, formation of a integrated management and control method including the three big key elements of cost, schedule and quality. It will be more conducive to the earned value method in the practical engineering application, for the project decision-making provide reliable basis; Fifth, combined the project management software P6with the earned value management method, improve the maneuverability of the method, not only improves the project management information level, but also provide a convenient conditions for the earned value management method can be better applied to the project management. The improved earned value management, make the earned value theory system perfect and complement, improves the accuracy of earned value evaluation index system, but also provide a more scientific, effective management basis for project management; and with the three factors, cost/schedule and quality,as the core of the comprehensive control methods, expanding the Earned Value Method application category, enhance the capacity of the project manager for the whole process of a full range of supervision and management; at the same time, combined with the project management software and earned value management, makes the method more practical and operable, for project management practice has a strong guiding significance.
