Association Studies Of Large Enterprise International Competitiveness And National Competitiveness

In real world, a country’s political, economic and cultural situation have profound implications for the development of its large multinational companies. The world’s recent200years history of economic development also shows that the strength of a country’s large enterprises and the country itself are basically consistent. Leading countries in "The Global Competitiveness Report" and "The Word Competitiveness Yearbook" every year have excellent performances in Fortune Global500, too.However, there are few researches connecting the large enterprises’ international competitiveness and national competitiveness. In order to link up the two, this paper conducts a series of work.First, more than ten years of data from several international organizations and research institutions are used to make a descriptive analysis of the current international competitiveness in different levels of the world. Analysis shows that the international competitiveness of large enterprises, industry and nation of China have made progress by leaps and bounds in recent years, but there still is a big gap compared with the world advanced level.Then, based on the national competitiveness system from IMD and the Diamond Model of Michael Porter, the article attempts to establish an associated framework of the international competitiveness of micro and macro levels. The industrial international competitiveness is regarded as a transformer between firm and national competitiveness.After that, a panel data model is exploited to illustrate the connections existing between the international competitiveness of large enterprises and the country. And an error correction model of the international competitiveness of micro and macro levels in China is developed. Study indicates that the large enterprises’international competitiveness and national competitiveness are closely connected to each other, and countries in different development stages have dissimilar extent and directions in the connection.Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions. From a national perspective, an overall plan of development strategies and steps for every level of international competitiveness is essential for scientific policy making. From a industrial perspective, pillar industries need to be supported and assisted for China’s industrial transformation and upgrading. From an enterprise perspective, firms need to strengthen their internal capacity to take full advantage of the support from country and industry.As the economic globalization is getting further and deeper, the connections among different countries become tighter and tighter, and the competitions get more and more fierce as well. Therefore, this paper is supposed to provide a reference for the enhancement of China’s overall international competitiveness.
