In total exports, Jiangsu Province ranks second. With the increasing of totalexports year by year, the openness and economic development are raisedtremendously. Under the impact of financial crisis in2008, the annual exports ofJiangsu Province in2009decreased by16.3%, although the growth rate returned topre-crisis level in2010, what the crisis bring to us is the answer to how to against thecrisis and recover from crisis swiftly. Under the demand of transforming developmentmethod of foreign trade, improving the level and ability of independent innovationwould play an irreplaceable role. On the one hand, technological innovation canreduce labor costs through increasing labor productivity, and thus to be competitive inthe international market; on the other hand, technological innovation can bringbenefits from new products or new technologies, mainly to obtain excess profits fromthe monopoly. In order to analyze the impact of technological innovation on exports based on theperspective of exports scale, competitiveness and structure, this thesis firstlyexplores the relationship between innovation and exports from the trade theories.Secondly, this thesis analyzes the present situation of export scale, competitivenessand export structure in Jiangsu Province, and compare Jiangsu Province with otherdeveloped provinces or cities, so as to seek the advantage and disadvantage ofJiangsu Province and make sure the stage Jiangsu Province on. Finally, this thesisexamines the impact of innovation on exports from the empirically perspective, makes the linear regression models from the overall level, then in order to comparethe differences among industries, this thesis establishes panel models through data of21industries, respectively from the export scale and the competitiveness. As theimpact of technological innovation on export scale and competitive is differentaccording to different industries, this thesis divides the21industries into4categories: resource-intensive, labor-intensive, capital-intensive andtechnology-intensive, then establish four panel models respectively to compare thedifferences. The conclusions were as follows: R&D input in technology-intensive industry hasa significant role in promoting exports, so as to the capital-intensive industry, but theinfluencing trend is not obvious on resource-intensive and labor-intensive industries; the R&D input in technology-intensive industry has a significant role in promotingcompetitiveness, so as to the capital-intensive industry, but the influencing trend isnot obvious on resource-intensive and labor-intensive industries; the proportion ofsales revenue of new products to total sales revenue of manufactures can influenceexport structure much more obvious than the proportion of internal R&D spending toGDP, this suggestes that although Jiangsu Province has an relatively high percentageof R&D input, the absorption ability of R&D investment is not equally high. Thus,Jiangsu should continue to increase R&D investment, adjust the distribution of R&Dinvestment among industries, and improve the absorptive capacity of R&Dinvestment.
