Lotus seed and its by-products not only have nutrition and health care functions, but also havemedicinal value, also can be as a viewing spot, so its purpose is extremely wide and with greatdevelopment value. Development of lotus seed is an important way to promote agriculture efficiencyand farmres’ income; is the requirements of reasonably using resources and changing in agriculturaldevelopment mode; is an important content of promoting production development and building newsocialist countrysides; is an advantage of locally converting migrant workers, promoting harmony offamily, stability of rural people and harmonious development of society. In Qianjiang, lotus seedindustry is a new industry and has broad development prospects. Qianjiang owns unique conditions ofwater resource, lotus seed’s planting area is increasing year by year, but can’t be regarded as a realindustry, so it is urgent to research constraints to industry development, propose sustainabledevelopment of countermeasures and optimize planting structure, to make lotus seed industry developand grow in Qianjiang, and take a healthy development road setting large-scale production,industrialization management and branding sales in one.This paper analyses lotus seed industry development status at home and abroad. Through the waysof issuing questionnaires and interviewing with farmers and enterprises, mainly investigated over theyears Qianjiang lotus seed’s planting scale, output value and benefits, development trend, used newtechnology, new model, enterprises’ proecessing abilities, processed products’ situation, quality’s safetysituation, Qianjang’s location advantage, soil condition, climate condition, technology condition andapropriate planting area, etc. Clearly investigated Qianjiang lotus seed’s status and think that Qianjianglotus seed industry’s development speed is fast, reasonably used resources and increased farmers’income, and at the same time, still existes some problems e.g. development is not enough, processingability is insufficient, technical talents are short, policy support is less, price fluctuation is large andfood safety hidden troubles are existed, etc. Aiming at these problems, give the suggestions as follows:strengthen propaganda, planting by water if suitable for water environment and planting by dry land ifsuitable for dry land environment, make full use of existing and appropriate water resource to expandlotus seed’s planting area; strengthen policy support, involve lotus seed into a new round of ‘VegetableBasket’ project construction award complement scope, to perfect planting base’s infrastructureconstruction; should attract foreign investment, implement large-scale planting, develop new products,improve processing capacity and by leading enterprise to lead the whole lotus seed industry’sdevelopment; perfect agricultural technology extension system, introduce necessary talents for lotusseed planting and processing; at the same time, strengthen the establishment of market system, buildagricultural products quality traceability system, increase inspection scope, strengthen marketsupervision, to ensure safe lotus seed quality. Therefore promote Qianjiang lotus seed industry’scontinuous development and growth.
