With the opening up of the retail industry, a lot of multinational retail enterprises enter China, it makes the competition among retail enterprises fiercer. In this situation, how could our retail enterprises face to the advantages of capital, scale, management etc in foreign companies? How could the retail enterprises in our country survive in the fierce competition? The answer is to cultivate and improve the core competitiveness. This article was based on the comparative analysis between multinational retail enterprises and retail enterprises in China. This article is based on the relevant theory to study how to enhance the core competitiveness of Chinese retail enterprises. It is very important for the development of retail enterprises in China.This paper studies the key ideas:first, we review the core competitiveness theory, and then based on the value chain theory, we analyzed each link of retail enterprises. I concluded that the core competitive ability of retail enterprise is constituted of business management, enterprise culture, process control and marketing. And, on this basis, we established a evaluation index system. In the empirical study, we use this evaluation index system compared the core competitiveness between multinational retail enterprises and retail enterprises in China. And we use Wal-mart, Carrefour, WuShang group and ZhongBai group as study objects. Finally, we get some conclusions and put forward some proposals to enhance the core competitiveness of Chinese retail enterprises.
