Today the automotive industry is a fast-growing and promising industry. Its safety is closely related to consumers’health and property, so the quality plays an important role to the automobile parts enterprises. To an auto parts manufacturer, it has been very difficult to get the competitive edge in terms of cost saving and process design. They have to compete on quality. How to improve the product quality and reduce the defect rate becomes the manufacturer’s main concern. Based on the spark plug manufacture’s practice, a research on its product’s quality defects has been taken, committing to improve the quality level and performance.The traditional quality control and improvement methods have been widely used in the practice, but there exist some problems like the resource wasting and the control invalid. Using the theories of modern engineering and management science to establish the process quality model for quality control and quality improvement is focused by this paper.Based on the theories of quality and auto parts industry, this research integrates the methods and theories of quality control and quality improvement to establish the quality control and improvement model, including control module and improvement module. The function of the control module is to take intelligent predict, mainly adopting the genetic neural network (GA-BP) algorithm. The reason of using neural network is because of its ability to adapt to deal with uncertainty, nonlinear, time-varying complex systems problem. But due to the BP algorithm defects like the slow convergence and converging to local optimal solution, this module makes use of genetic algorithm to optimize neural network weights and thresholds. The function of improvement module is to implement the improvement measures on the basis of the quality predicting, mainly adopting8D process method. And then, the quality control and improvement model is applied to the size scrap and the resistance scrap in the spark plug manufacturing company. The implement methods and procedures are described in detail. And the result shows that the both of the defect rates are decreased. Finally, the research contents are summarized and the future further directions are discussed at the end of the paper.
