The Research On Settlement Landscape Form Of Shujiatang Ancient Fort-type In Western Hunan

Based on generalized epistemology of the ethnic settlement landscape morphology, this paper takes the fort-type settlement of Shujiatang in western Hunan as the research object and studies its generation, evolution and driving mechanism.Under the background of Phoenix Ancient Town apply for the list of world heritage for the Regional military defense system and Shujiatang village was first batch into Chinese traditional village, resident requirements and protecting traditional fort-type settlement landscape are becoming irreconcilable. By using theories and methods of sciences of human settlements, landscape aesthetics theories and defensible space theory, this study focus on the research of evolution and landscape form in Shujiatang village and highlights the feature of landscape form in defensible space. Meanwhile with the regional background, natural factor, regional culture and the defense in period of Ming and Qing, analysis the formation and development of the settlement landscape pattern about Shujiatang fort-type. Stress the analysis on whole landscape form and element landscape form with their changes. The whole landscape form study shows that the defense system, landscape pattern, structural layout in Shujiatang settlement. Meanwhile it summarizes the evolution of scale, layout and function in Shujiatang village. In element landscape form, this study analyses and summarizes the living unit, defense structures and points space. And this study points out the driving mechanism of the village is changed that in before it thrives because the defense function but now it gone. The being construction in formation of fort-type had site selection and detailed planning, but self-construction through the process from fort-type to the village. At the same time, it is necessary to protect the landscape form of Shujiatang village, this study will propose a sustainable development strategy for this small village.
