Technology In The Perspective Of Gadamer’s Aesthetics

Gadamer’s aesthetic is designed to resist the generalization of scientific method. Gadamer deem science thinks that existence is the essence of the world while it ignores being, but in fact, subjective aesthetics should not obeys scientific method, because of that would separates art from our living world, and leads to the loss of art’s rationality. He makes art back to the living world, and let the significance of artwork based on things such as ethics, religion and customs. Self-expression is the existing way of game, and game is the existing way of artwork, so artwork is one kind of human’s self-expression, and also the extension of being; the truth of art comes from human’s understanding which based on living world’s specific situations, so it is one kind of limited truth, it infinitely close to completions when human’s understanding repeatedly happen. Techne is the fountainhead of art and technology, it reveals the existing way of being as a way to search former scientific truth "aletheia", and this aletheia is what Gadamer calls "truth of art". As the way to reveal the existing way of being, the difference between technology and art is that the output of technology are things concern to skill or activities of production, but the output of art is sentiment or ideal. Technology is differ from modern technology, what we call technology is one kind of human’s understanding which based on living world’s specific situations just like art do, and the same, it also infinitely close but never reach to completions, and it exist in good purpose. As human’s self-expression, technical action and technical product extend being while modern technology alienates from the nature of technology. Modern technology based on scientific method as a tool of science, it alienates living world and deprive human’s self-awareness and option, human are completely dominated by it. So modern technology should distinguish being from existence, claims being as the real truth, and back to the good purpose world, embrace finitude but not absolute.
