Machine tools in China, whose quantity ranks first throughout the world, haveconsumed a great deal of energy in the processing and its emissions are generallyextremely detrimental to our environment. Meanwhile, the systematic investigation andstatistics indicate that the energy efficiency of machine tools are very low, whichimplies that there exists great potential in energy saving. So, it is of great significance tostudy and evaluate energy efficiency of machine tools, which is constructed on thesupport of energy consumption data of work site. Compared with general machine tools,CNC machine tools are more widely used in production industry. The main transmissionsystem is the most important component, whose energy consumption is the main part ofthe total energy consumption of machine tools. On the basis of foregoing consideration,this paper focuses on the energy consumption state monitoring, energy informationacquisition and energy efficiency evaluation of main transmission system of CNCmachine tools. The principal research contents are as follows.Firstly, the energy flow and its characteristics of the main transmission system ofCNC machine tools were studied, and so was the energy model is analyzed. Thesediscussions provided reliable theoretical foundation for establishing the energyconsumption on-line monitoring model of the main transmission system of CNCmachine tools.Secondly, the systematic structure of energy consumption state on-line monitoringsystem for the main transmission system of CNC machine tools was studied, includingthe index system of energy consumption, information acquisition techniques for theindex and the energy consumption on-line monitoring model. This paper presented anindex system of the on-line monitoring system from tow perspectives, energy utilizationand equipment utilization. Then, we presented the index system acquisition methodincluded basic data obtaining, signals pre-processing, machine tool state recognition. Onthis basis, the energy consumption on-line monitoring for the main transmission systemof CNC machine tools model was constructed, and introduced an overall frame designof the monitoring system.In the next step, the hardware platform of energy consumption on-line monitoringsystem was constructed. Power sensor was developed and finally integrated withmultifunctional information terminal platform. At the same time, software development platform was constructed based on Qt whilst the various functional modules wereachieved. Ultimately, a prototype system of the main transmission system of CNCmachine tools energy consumption state on-line monitoring was developed.Finally, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, some tests were done ondifferent CNC machine tools including lathe C2-6136HK/1and engraving and millingmachine SMARTCNC500. The experimental results showed that the system is effectiveand reliable.
